Graham Gussins Tumblong Notebook
4.5.98.
I've been thinking about the submission of a further artefact for the site since early days. Until now I didn't know what this might be or whether it was an interesting idea or not. It seems like it is for me now, as a way of thinking about all of the other artefacts and as a way of turning the structure of Tumblong inside-out for a brief moment.
The 747 came out of the blue one day as I was walking down the street. It worked as it was something so obvious and something that is so much taken for granted in the 90's that it's almost invisible.
Thinking about this idea a little longer (I still wasn't sure) I found that one
of the really interesting angles was the notion that the 747 was the space
between the two countries. How many times has this space traced the line between
one and the other location?
Looking at the artefacts page again I think that the 747 relates to the shoes and the information carried on those pages from the Migration Museum more than the other objects. In this way the 747 is an artefact in response to an artefact. The museum will one day have as part of its display a complete and intact Boeing 747.
End of entry.
