What is this?
Tumblong is a production site for new art on
the World Wide Web. The art is about the connection between Australia and
Britain in the past, present and future.
The essence of the Tumblong site is
interaction amoung artists and the public.
The starting points for the new art are a series of cultural artefacts
linking the two countries. They have been selected by participating cultural
institutions from either their collections or the public domain. We want
a dynamic network of artists, institutions and the public, collaborating
in the production of new art on the Web.
Four artists are working on the site for three months commencing February, 1998 -
Brook
Andrew and Elizabeth Gertsakis
in Australia, and Susan Collins
and Graham Gussin in Britain. Their art can be produced in any medium. We are making
digital records of their work in progress every week or so, and putting
it up on the Web for everyone to see and react to.
Anyone can participate, from anywhere in the world. If you have got something
to say about this project, why don't you join the artists and production
team in the discussion forum at the
Crossroads.
At Crossroads
we will link to any site anywhere
in the world where people are making their own creative response to the
artefacts and art at Tumblong. At Signposts
the production team will be suggesting
their own set of links (updated weekly) to what they think is hot at Tumblong.
Tumblong is a joint project
of the Institute for Interactive Multimedia
at UTS and the Ruskin
School of Drawing and Fine Art at Oxford
University, in collaboration with cultural
institutions in Australia and Britain. The Arts
Council of England and the Australia
Council for the Arts have provided the funding for the artists' fees.
